Do I need to add variables to the same website and web app every time?
No, you only need to add variables to a website or web app once. Magical will remember that you added variables to the specific site or app so you never have to do it again.
How can I split a variable? For example, if I just want to retrieve First Name.
You can split variables based if there is a space between them. To do this, select the variable (for example, Jane Doe) from the variable picker. While youβre still in edit mode, click on the split icon (pictured below) to separate the variable.
Do I need to have the website or web app open every time I am using Variables?
Yes, the relevant website tab needs to be open in order for Magical to access the correct Variables. For example, if you were sending an email to Oprah Winfrey π and your Shortcut has variables from a LinkedIn profile, you would need to have her LinkedIn profile open.
Where can I add variables?
In general, you can select variables anywhere on the internet. Variables work best on web pages with structured data (e.g., Profile page on Facebook, Business page on Yelp, Home Listing on Airbnb).
We do not currently support variables on desktop apps.
Why do variables pre-exist on some websites and not others?
Magical comes with Variables built out of the box for hundreds of websites. But you can always add or edit your own to other websites and web apps.
Can I have variables from multiple websites or web-apps embedded in a single shortcut?
No, you can only have Variables from a single website or web-app embedded in your shortcut. As a workaround, you can build modular Shortcuts (i.e., multiple shortcuts that act as building blocks). For example, if you wanted to include Variables from both LinkedIn and Salesforce in a shortcut, you would need to set up two separate shortcuts.
