What are variables?

Variables are chunks of data that you can select from any website or web app. On a LinkedIn profile, Variables can include things like Name, Headline or Location.

Using Magical, you can pick the Variables you care about most from any website. Magical then remembers your Variables and a u t o m a g i c a l l y fills your Shortcuts, spreadsheets, and forms.

Discovering variables

On popular sites like LinkedIn, Variables will already be created and labeled, free for you to use in your work. To see what variables exist, navigate to any structured page like a LinkedIn profile. Click on the Magical icon from your web browser to open the panel, and click Edit Variables.

You will see different elements highlighted on the page. These are the variables that already exist that you can use in your work.

Creating variables

Variables exist on many public sites but you can also create your own variables on sites that we may not have seen before such as your own internal sites. To create a Variable, navigate to a site, click on the Magical browser icon and click Edit variables. Click elements on the page that you’d like to label, add a label and click Save. That’s it! You only have to do this once and you can use this variable in your work.
